JRVP Online Catalog The JRVP Online Catalog contains records of materials owned by the MTU Library, including books, periodicals, videos, CDs, maps, government publications, and microformat materials. To search for a periodical, search by Journal Title for the periodical title (sometimes called "Source"), rather than by article title or author.

Reference Collection Second Floor

The Reference Collection is a good place to collect background information on an issue or to start your research. It is arranged by subject, using the Library of Congress classification system (call numbers.)

Thomson Gale 

General Reference Center Gold: A general interest database that integrates a variety of sources in one easy-to-use interface. Use to find articles from newspapers, reference books, and periodicals, many with full-text and images.

Expanded Academic ASAP Gives access to arts and the humanities to social sciences, science and technology scholarly journals, news magazines, and newspapers - many with full text and images;

General Business File Provides information to analyze company performance and activity, industry events and trends as well as the latest in management, economics and politics.

 

FirstSearch Access to over 60 indexes. They include:

Worldcat, Comprehensive database for all types of material cataloged by OCLC member libraries. This does NOT index periodicals at the article level;

Wilson Select Plus, A full text database comprised of articles represented by selected citations from Readers' Guide Abstracts, Social Sciences Abstracts, Humanities Abstracts, General Science Abstracts, Education Abstracts, and Wilson Business Abstracts.

Wilson Business, Leading English language business magazines.

 

LexisNexis

Academic Provides full-text documents from over 5,600 news, business, legal, medical, and reference publications.

Congressional Comprehensive online resource from Congressional hearings, public issues, legislation, history, and legal research.

 

 

 

 

ABI/InformSearch nearly 1800 worldwide business periodicals. Covers 1971- present.

 

Communication Studies: A SAGE Full-Text Collection

Full text journals on such subjects as Journalism, Public Opinion, Political Communication, Mass Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Cultural Studies / Intercultural Communication, Media Studies, Business Communication, Organizational / Management Communication, Written Communication, and Rhetoric.

 

CQ Researcher Original, comprehensive reporting and analysis on issues in the news.

 

JSTOR

Contains scanned images of over 200 scholarly journals dated from with 2-5 years. Titles from a wide range of fields are included, such as, Business, Economics, Education, Finance, Geography, Latin American Studies, Middle East Studies, Political Science, Psychology, Public Policy & Administration, and Sociology.

 

E-books:

netLibrary Full-text versions of books. Includes many business and management titles.Requires users to have a MTU IP address, an ISO password or to have established an individual user account.

http://www.usasearch.gov USA.gov Portal to federal and state government information. All sites linked are evaluated for accuracy and authority.

http://www.ipl.org/div/subject/ - Internet Public Library: Subject Collections Good starting place for a research-oriented approach to a variety of subject areas. IPL Emphasis is on education rather than entertainment.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) - access to items from other libraries for material not at the JRVP Library.*NEW*

To request books and articles from other libraries, complete the appropriate New Request form, available by selecting Interlibrary Loan on the Library's website and logging into ILLiad (Inter-Library Loan Internet Accessible Database). When using ILLiad for the first time, click on First Time Users to set up your account; youll need your MTU User ID and Password as well as your MTU ID number.

 

Note: The ILL process can take time (longer than 10 days in some cases.) Plan your research time accordingly.
