E-Resources access to electronic indexes/abstracts, online books, e-journals and selected websites.
From the Search for an E-Resource menu, databases may be searched alphabetically by name (e.g. Engineering Village 2), by topic (e.g. Materials Science & Engineering), or by collection (e.g. FirstSearch or Cambridge Scientific Abstracts). E-Resources are also searchable by keyword(s.) Use the index databases to locate journal articles, newspaper articles, or reviews on your topic. Some indexes or collections of indexes especially useful for research in this course include:
ABI/Inform Covers a wide range of business and management topics.
Engineering Village 2
An index to journal articles in all engineering disciplines, applied physics,
electronics, materials science and related fields in science and
management from 1970 to the present.
EngNetBase
A compilation of information in general,
structural, electrical, mechanical, civil, environmental, remediation, and
optomechanical engineering previously published in CRC engineering handbooks.
First Search
A collection providing access to about 50 databases, most of which are
periodical indexes with abstracts, including
ASTA (Applied Science & Technology
Abstracts) - An index to the literature of the applied sciences and technology
INSPEC - An index to the literature of physics, electronics and computing
PapersFirst - An index to papers presented at conferences
Proceedings - An index to conference publications
Lexis-Nexis Academic Includes full-text access to news, business, and legal materials.
Machinery's Handbook
A standard handbook of practical information for
mechanical engineers.

Searching for Books
MTU Online Catalog lists the books, periodicals, government publications, and other materials available in the Michigan Tech library.
WorldCat (FirstSearch) is a worldwide library catalog that can be used to learn what books have been published on a subject.
Introduction
to Government Publications
The Michigan Tech Library is one of 1,365 depository libraries in the United States. Others in Michigan include Detroit Public Library, The Library of Michigan, and many college and university libraries.
Not all government information is distributed through the depository library
program. Patents, for example, are sent only to designated Patent Libraries. In
addition, the National Technical Information Service (NTIS) sells scientific
and technical reports, business information, and other data, produced by U.S.
government agencies, international government organizations, and government
contractors. Most of these must be purchased from NTIS (www.ntis.gov).
Copyright Law
Basic information on Copyright Law is available on web site of the Library of Congress at http://www.loc.gov/copyright/
Interlibrary Loan access to items from other libraries.
Request items using an ILL form available at the Circulation desk or online (Under Library Services menu, select Interlibrary Loans.) FirstSearch and Cambridge Scientific Abstracts also allow ILL requests through their sites.
Note The ILL process can take time (longer than 10 days in some cases.) Plan your research time accordingly.
For individual assistance or instruction from a librarian, visit or phone the Reference/Information Desk (487-2507), e-mail instrlib@mtu.edu, or complete an Individual Instruction Request form found under Reference & Instruction on the Librarys web page at www.lib.mtu.edu.
