Browsing and Search Terms
Not everyone uses the same word to describe the same thing. Examples are cars verses automobiles, or PC verses personal computer. When searching for information on your topic it is important to keep this in mind and try different search terms when you do not get the results you want. Here are some examples of terms you may want to use when searching for Gender:

The reference collection is a good place to begin exploring an unfamiliar subject. The resources found here can give you definitions of new terms and back ground information on your subject, along with help identifying specific issues within your broad subject area to explore in more detail.

Each article begins with an outline of its topics, a glossary of especially important terms, and a first paragraph summarizing the content of the article.
Encyclopedia of Bioethics
The alphabetical entries address a wide range of topics that raise difficult and important questions. Abortion, genetic screening, female genital mutilation, the right to die, health issues of immigration, and corporate responsibility are but a few. The contributors discuss the issues from many points of view. The abortion article includes sections covering medical perspectives, contemporary ethical and legal aspects, and Jewish, Catholic, Protestant, and Islamic religious perspectives. There are also articles about bioethics in Buddhism, eugenics, health policy, women as health-care professionals, whistle blowing in health care, and veterinary ethics. All of the articles are signed, and all have bibliographies.

Coverage includes historical, medical, psychological, sociological, and transcultural and transgeographical information in biographical, topical, and thematic entries. A subject cross-reference guide begins the work.

This collection of articles covers GLBT history from colonel times through the landmark 2003 case of Lawrence & Garner v. Texas Supreme Court case. Articles are signed and followed by a bibliography and list of cross-references.
Encyclopedia of Psychology
Encyclopedia of Sociology
Following the cross-references, each article or major section includes a list of "References and Further Readings." These bibliographies, generally from four to ten works in length, are comprised of print works for the most part, though some entries do list Web sites. Each volume begins with an alphabetical listing of articles.

Access to electronic indexes/abstracts, online books, e-journals and selected websites are available through the library website at http://www.lib.mtu.edu/ listed under e-resources.
Contains records of materials owned by the MTU Library, including books, periodicals, videos, CDs, maps, government publications, and microformat materials. Two search interfaces, Basic and Keyword, allow the user to search for items by author, title, subject, call number, ISBN/ISSN, or keyword(s). Use the Location, Status, and Call Number information to find an item in the Library collections. To search for a periodical article, search by Journal Title for the title of the periodical (sometimes called the "Source"), rather than searching by article title or author.
