HuskyFetch FAQ

1. What is HuskyFetch  ?

HuskyFetch is based on SFX software, which implements the OpenURL standard. After a database is configured for SFX, a HuskyFetch button will appear on each bibliographic record.

2. What happens when I click on a HuskyFetch button ?

Clicking the button will open a window with a list of services available for the cited article. If full-text versions of the article are available, then those links will be displayed. If full text isn't available, then you can check the library's catalog for a paper copy. If the library doesn't have a paper copy, then you can click on the link to an interlibrary loan form.

3. Why don't I see any HuskyFetch buttons?

If there aren't any buttons, then the database you're using hasn't yet been configured for HuskyFetch.

4. Does the HuskyFetch button appear on my favorite database?

If the database is HuskyFetch enabled, you will see a Husky symbol under the HuskyFetch Enabled column.

5. The only option I see is to request an interlibrary loan. What's that ?

When you click on the link for interlibrary loan, you can complete the form that pops up, and then submit it to interlibrary loan. They'll try to obtain the paper or book from another library. Here's more information about interlibrary loan.

6. When I click to get full text, I sometimes end up on the journal's home page or table of contents. Why can't I go directly to the article ?

The journal publisher controls whether HuskyFetch will have enough information to get to the article. If HuskyFetch can't link to the article, then you'll be taken to the publisher's web site, the journal's home page, or the issue's table of contents.

7. Even though HuskyFetch says full text is available, my article isn't there. Why not ?

There are several possible reasons for this:

• Article citations sometimes appear in a database before the journal publisher has made the full text available. 
• Publishers and authors sometimes withhold the full text of articles. 
• HuskyFetch uses citation information (volume, issue, page number, etc.) to link to the article. If a citation has a typographical error, then HuskyFetch can't find the article.

8. Can I use HuskyFetch from home ?

Enrolled MTU students, faculty, and staff can use HuskyFetch from off-campus. You'll be asked to enter your ISO user name and password. For more information about off-campus access to the library's electronic resources, please read this Off-Campus Access FAQ.

9. What is E-Journal A-Z List Browser Toolbar?

SFX offers library users an A-Z list Browser Toolbar as an add-on for Internet Explorer. This add-on allows users to quickly search for electronic journals held at the J.R. Van Pelt / Opie library from the browser toolbar. Currently this add-on is only available for Internet Explorer, versions 5.5, 6, and 7. 10. Scheduled Maintenance?

HuskyFetch undergoes regularly scheduled maintenance. During this maintenance HuskyFetch is unavailable. Please consult the following schedule if you are having problems accessing HuskyFetch. Tuesday - Saturday 2:00 am - 4:00 am
