Policy on Posting & Distribution of Literature

PURPOSE:
The purpose of this policy is to:

Provide guidelines and procedures by which individuals, groups and
organizations can have materials posted.

Outline the approval process for posting materials in the Library
-
Explain the enforcement avenues of the policy.
General Guidelines:
Approval will be guided by the provision of this Policy and not by the content
of the material under consideration.
When space is available, materials which meet the following criteria will be
accepted for posting:

Events and announcements must not be discriminatory in nature.

Announcement does not advertise commercial businesses.

Material does not contain offensive, obscene, profane or indecent content.

Material does not promote, encourage or entice violence.
-
Signs written in a foreign language must be accompanied by an English
translation.

Personal messages may not be placed on the board and will be removed.

Poorly made posters or flyers will not be posted.

The Library reserves the right to move and remove materials at its discretion.

Materials will be removed within 2 weeks of posting.

Only one approved copy of a posting is allowed.

No materials may be left in carrels, study rooms, tables, doors or on walls
anywhere in the Library.

Materials posted without approval from the Library will be removed.
Unauthorized and outdated postings will be discarded. The Library assumes no
responsibility for the preservation or protection of materials posted or placed
for free distribution.

The material will be dated for approval and future removal.

Final determination on the posting of material will be determined by the
Library Director.
Materials known to be illegal will not be posted or placed for free
distribution. Submission of unlawful, threatening, abusive, libelous,
defamatory, and/or obscene material will not be accepted. Submitting material
constituting or encouraging conduct that would constitute a criminal offense,
give rise to civil liability, otherwise violate any local, provincial, national
or international law, including without limitation, export control laws and
regulations will not be accepted.
Approval Process
Bring materials to the Library Director?s Office, Room 202, located on the
second floor of the library between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm Monday through
Friday.
All violations of this policy by students or student organizations will be
removed.
